Dear Reader,
Have you ever felt something shift inside you before anything in your life had actually changed?
Maybe it was a decision you hadn't made yet, or a possibility that wouldn't leave you alone. On the outside, life looked exactly the same, but on the inside, something was already moving.
I've had a few moments like that. One of them began on an ordinary Monday morning years ago, and it's still teaching me something about how we experience life.
Now let's get ALIGNED...

The Story
Years ago, when I was living in Long Beach, life was pretty good. I had a decent-paying job five minutes from home, I was dating someone I enjoyed spending time with, and I had found a spiritual home at Agape.
Some evenings I'd head down to the beach and rollerblade as the sun went down. There was no problem I was trying to solve, and I wasn't looking for a way out of anything.
Then one Monday morning, I woke up feeling off. I couldn't name what was wrong, but I felt uneasy and heavy enough that I took a mental health day.
By Tuesday, the feeling was still there. I felt sluggish and foggy, so I stayed home again and kept cleaning and organizing my room.
At some point, sitting on my bedroom floor surrounded by boxes and old papers, I came across a sheet of paper with the words "My Psychic Reading" written across the top. A couple of years earlier, I had seen a psychic and scribbled down notes afterward, and I had completely forgotten about it.
One sentence stopped me.
"You are going to move back to San Francisco."
When he first told me that, I had dismissed it. Moving back to the Bay Area was the last thing I wanted, because I had built a life I loved in Long Beach.
But that day, the same words landed completely differently. My heart started pounding, and the uneasiness grew stronger instead of weaker.
Then I heard myself say out loud, "I'm going to move back to San Francisco." I said it again, and this time something deeper was behind it: "I need to move back to San Francisco."
Almost immediately, something shifted. The heaviness I had carried for two days lifted, I could breathe again, and my body felt awake in a way it hadn't all week.
I didn't have a plan, and I had no idea what moving back would look like or what would happen once I got there. But I knew, with a certainty I couldn't explain, that this was something I had to do. I knew it was my soul telling me: this is your next step.
There were plenty of questions I couldn't answer, but I knew I couldn't not follow this.
Looking back, saying those words out loud was my first step. I had made a decision before I had any idea how it would work.
The next step was simple. That same day, I called a close friend in the Bay Area to tell her I had decided to move back, and she told me her roommate had just announced she was moving out. I ended up moving in with her.
The very next day, another friend reached out about a job he thought I'd be perfect for. I applied and got it.
Everything flowed with an ease I could never have planned.
At the time, it felt like the Universe was confirming I'd made the right decision. I've since learned that the right step doesn't always come with open doors, but this time, they opened almost as fast as I could walk through them.
And here's a detail I love: I didn't end up in San Francisco at all. I moved into that apartment across the bay in Oakland.
The breadcrumb led me back to the Bay Area, but it didn't hand me the exact address.
The meaning became clearer only by living it. I tell the fuller story in my book The Creative Impulse, but what stays with me most is this: I hadn't consciously wanted to leave Long Beach. Those words on the paper didn't create the desire. They surfaced something that had already begun moving in me, underneath a good job and a good life, before I had any idea it was there.
The Spiritual Lesson
What I keep coming back to is that two years earlier, those exact words meant almost nothing to me. But sitting on my bedroom floor that Tuesday, I felt something in them I hadn't felt before.
The words hadn't changed. I had.
The psychic's words were the breadcrumb. What moved inside me in response was the real experience.
Over the years, I've come to understand moments like that through something I believe deeply: we are vibrational beings living in a vibrational universe.
All of life is energy, and who we are is energy, first and foremost. We tend to understand our lives through our thoughts and circumstances, the things we can see, name, and explain, but underneath all of that we are constantly sensing another dimension of life, often long before we have words for it.
You likely do this more often than you realize. You walk into a room and feel the tension before anyone speaks, or you leave a conversation energized or strangely drained without being able to say why.
An idea crosses your mind, and something in you lights up before you've decided whether it makes any sense. That's what was happening on my bedroom floor: my energy was moving before my understanding caught up.
What I felt that day wasn't frantic or anxious. It was clear and true, and it came with a sense of relief, as if something in me could finally breathe.
That kind of clarity doesn't come often, and not every strong feeling is an instruction. Fear can feel like a warning, and an old wound can feel like intuition. Familiarity can feel like peace, and excitement can feel like a calling.
Our energetic experience is information, not a verdict.
Discernment grows over time, often by taking a step and seeing what the next moment reveals. That's how breadcrumbs work. They don't show you the destination, but they give you something to follow.
Your Call to Action
Here's a small way to begin.
Remember a time you knew something before you could explain why. You don't need to analyze it; just let it remind you that you already do this.
Then bring to mind something unquestionably life-giving for you, like a person you love, a place where you feel most like yourself, or work that brings you alive, and spend a moment with it. Now think of something that consistently drains you. What feels different inside?
If you can, find a word or two that honestly describes each experience. This isn't about making decisions. It's about learning your own energetic language, so the next time something stirs in you before you can explain it, you'll recognize a little more of what you're experiencing.
You may discover you've been speaking this language all along. You just haven't had words for it yet.
May you honor what moves in you, even before you can name it.
May you meet your inner experience with curiosity rather than demanding certainty.
And when a breadcrumb appears, may you trust that you don't need the whole path to be willing to follow it.
